Installing Tweetdeck on Ubuntu
Recently I’ve had a few people ask me how to install tweetdeck on ubuntu, thought I’d write it up because it’s really that simple. The thing that trips most people up is when they download the air installer but can’t run it. If this ever happens, just remember chmod +x filename.ext, this marks the file as executable.
Go and download the adobe air installer for Linux from...
ruby loves regex's eh?
Regular expressions have always been somewhat of a mystery to me, my language of choice up until now (c#) doesn’t rely on them a lot and provides a lot of string functions that let you avoid regex’s.
I’ve been coding in ruby for the last 2 weeks or so and this is one of the things that I’ve really noticed as a difference between the 2 languages.
Regular expressions are...

just good or great?
We just had an interesting conversation around the lunch table here at @richmondday. The topic was about the logo design for a major car brand. We were given the work and had to come up with some logo designs, somehow the conversation got side tracked and ended up taking about what makes a designer or developer just good and what makes them great.
We basically ended up concluding that the...

When twitter goes down
We all know what we do, endless tweets about fail whale this and epic fail that, yes I’ve even done it myself (much to my own internal shame).
As a group of individuals we have placed a very high expectation on the sites that *run* our lives and businesses (the run is a bit tounge in cheek). Its very easy to complain when twitter (or youtube or facebook or etc) is down, but have we looked...

I thought you knew and were going to give it to me
In some sense, all these women were living the lives they had been raised to think they wanted. John Foreman later summarized the classic conundrum of marriages in the 1950s: “The guy rides up on a white horse, sweeps the girl off her feet, and says, ‘Marry me and I’ll give you everything you want.’ Years pass and the wife comes to the painful conclusion that she is miserable. ‘Why are you...

Sure, its easy to do, gives immediate satisfaction to you and your client, but it will only hurt you in the long run.

I honestly have no idea as to what really inspired me to write this. I think it’s hot. Spur of the moment, I take it? or something of that nature. Whatever possessed me to write this must have been extremely high…
…and I don’t mind it, either.

Tumblr app for the blackberry
Giving it a shot, strangely most of my writing idea’s happen while I’m away from the computer so I figured this would be a great way to capture stuff when I’m on the go. Also, I’m a bb nerd and love trying out apps for my fave websites! Anyone else using it? Have any tips or tricks to share? Lemme know!

tried sharing this through greader but it failed. I’m so torn now between the new bb’s and iphone. Mobile is doing a great job of innovating.

Automate
I’m a developer, and one of the things that developer’s do all the time are repetitive manual tasks.
How many of you automate this stuff into scripts, batch files, console apps?
How many of you don’t? Do you realize how much time your spending doing stuff that doesn’t matter.
Automating manual repetitive tasks is more important than you think.
Stop spending all that...
